Officer of
the Year
2007
Detective
Dan Martin
Over
the past year Detective Martin’s professionalism as a member
of our organization was very evident on several very high-profile
cases. On May 5, 2007 Detective Martin was assigned the duty
as a lead investigator in Seaside ’s only homicide of 2007.
On that day Seaside Police units responded to San Pablo Avenue
on a report of two victims of a shooting. When units arrived
they found a male and female both suffering from multiple gunshot
wounds. Detective Martin arrived soon thereafter with other
investigators and began to sort out the details. To say that
this was a very confusing and traumatic scene would be an understatement.
In the coming weeks, this case was made even bigger by media
coverage that followed.
Detective
Martin took charge of the investigation and conducted lengthy
interviews with the suspect, witnesses and the surviving victim/daughter
of the suspect, who was not cooperating with the investigation.
However, Detective Martin was able to build a solid homicide
case against the suspect and this proved very evident at the
trial. Without Detective Martin’s dedication and hard work this
case may not have gone to court as a voluntary murder case.
During
the month of September 2007 Detective Martin and his partner,
Detective Jorge Enriquez, received the Seaside Police Department’s
first “Arrest of the Month” award for their part in a rape case
that, once again, caught considerable media attention. After
an exhaustive three-day investigation, Detective Martin proved
to be an excellent teammate during the investigation and assisted
with a lengthy interview. After four hours of good teamwork
between Detective Enriquez and Detective Martin, the suspect
gave a full confession to the crime.
For
these and other examples of good work, Detective Martin is hereby
named the Officer of the Year for 2007.
