PROPERTY ROOM
The
Seaside Police Department Property Room is staffed by two full-time
Police Services Assistants, B. Lauritsen and D. Weilenmann, who
report to the Administrative Sergeant. They are primarily responsible
for the intake, processing, safeguarding and disposal of evidence,
property and found items.
The
Property Room is open Monday to Friday from 7:30 A.M. to 12:00
noon, and from 1:00 P.M. to 4:30 P.M. Citizens, who have been
arrested and have had to leave their personal property such as
bicycles and backpacks with the Seaside Police Department, are
encouraged to pick up their items as soon as possible after discharge
from the Jail. After 60 days, a letter will be sent to the owner
at the address given at the time of arrest and a deadline of 15
calendar days will be given for pick-up. After that time, the
items are disposed of as appropriate.
The
Property Room acquires many items that are found and turned in
at the Police Department. Of special note are bicycles, which
are extremely difficult to reunite with the rightful owners. It
is suggested that you register bicycles at the Fire Department
or at least know the serial number when you report the bicycle
missing.
PUBLIC
AUCTION

In
2004, the Seaside Police Department signed an agreement with PropertyBureau.com,
Inc to have the Internet Auction Services company dispose of unclaimed
and surplus property.
Seaside
Municipal Code Chapter 2.48 "Public Auction of Unclaimed
Property" and Chapter 2.49 "Disposal of Surplus Items"
allow for the disposal of items through an auctioneer. In
order to reach a wider market and get a better price for these
items, the auction will be conducted on the Internet. Proceeds
will be placed in the general fund of the City of Seaside.
Interested
persons may view the items and submit their bids by logging onto
www.propertyroom.com or www.stealitback.com.
In
addition to the auction site, Property Bureau maintains a nationwide
registry available to the general public for recovering lost or
stolen goods. The Police Department provides the company
the serial number of each item and the Property Bureau checks
those numbers against their national registry. If there
is a match, Property Bureau contacts the owner and returns the
item. To register your lost or stolen items, visit www.stealitback.com.
